Recently I watched a video by Matt Cutts where he mentioned that Google has started using social as a signal. With more and more people using the “tweet”, “like”, and Google “+1” buttons, social is getting to be a big influence to search engines.

That means your search engine rankings will increase or decrease depending on how popular or good people believe your content is. The more people share something tell Google that your website must be useful or why would anybody share it with their followers and friends, right?

How to Use Twitter in a Real Life Business Scenario

Earlier this week I received an from a reader asking me if I could explain how to use twitter for her business.

I figured that more than one person is probably asking themselves the same question, so why not share it with all of you. So in this post I’m going to explain how powerful a tool social media can be for improving the sales process.

The Situation

Say one day one of your sales reps or yourself is returning a call to a lead you get from your website lead generator. Now if by any chance you couldn’t reach that person on the phone, so you leave a voicemail just saying you’re following up on their requests.

Now this could be the end of the conversation.

But later you find out (because you monitor your @reply tweets) that this prospect was unhappy with the voicemail that was on his inbox.

In this post today, I’m going to help you understand that, though an attractive website is great and all when it comes to “getting more business”, how why it’s not the most important factor. (This is part of the Skills 2 Money series.)

The truth is that a nice looking website might help a little bit, but it really can’t help you at all if a consistent stream of traffic (prospects to your site) aren’t landing on your products/services/hire me page.
