Alert! Move Your Facebook Tabs to Secure Hosting Required by Facebook

In May, Facebook said: October 1, 2011: All Canvas apps must process signed_request (fb_sig will be removed) and obtain an SSL certificate (unless you are in Sandbox mode). This will ensure that users browsing Facebook over HTTPS will have a great experience over a secure connection.

Cat Lee commented that content won’t be accessible for user with secure browsing turned on.

Page administrators need to find a secure hosting solution for their tabs, and I have some choices for this. You’ll find these two companies can give you secure hosting, and they’re budget-friendly.

Web Hosts That are Budget Friendly and Secure Hosting

wordpress-hostgatorHostGator: You’ve probably seen this logo everywhere, that’s because HostGator is really one of the most popular hosting companies that’s been around the block for a while. They’re “Hatching” Plan begins at $3.96/mo. and the “Baby” Plan is only $6.36/mo.

  • Minimum for secure hosting: Only $3.96/mo. with shared SSL
  • Business Plan includes unique IP and private SSL for only $10.36/mo
  • Unlimited bandwidth and disk space
  • Phone and Chat support everyday-allday

dreamhostDreamHost: Is another well known company but doesn’t offer shared SSL, and their customer support is not up to HostGator’s level, plus it cost extra. One thing I can say is that their dashboard is clean and easy to navigate.
  • Minimum secure hosting is $14.15/mo. (hosting and private SSL included)
  • Unlimited bandwidth and disk space.
  • For an extra $9.95/mo. you can call them three times a months and get unlimited live chat.

BlueHost: Over 20,000 new customer per month. Offers a variety of hosting plans. When it comes to shared SSL there’s a limit on the file size on each page of 100KB per included file, they warn you “any embedded date larger than 100KB will be truncated.” This might not be what you’re looking for.
  • Minimum secure hosting is only $5.95/mo with shared SSL
  • Minimum private SSL is $12.20/mo with hosting and private SSL included plus unique IP
  • Unlimited bandwidth and disk space
  • Support 24/7/365

Things to Consider when Choosing a Hosting Service

  • The number of domains that you can host under one account. Nowadays they all offer unlimited but not always. Verify they do
  • Free domain registration. Again most do, but there are some that still don’t
  • Support. Not every company thinks customer experience matters most. I’d suggest you find a hosting service that can offer you the best support you can get
  • Bandwidth and disk space. In this case the more the better. The majority you’ll find offer unlimited
  • How do different plans compare? Go through each company’s comparison page and analyze them carefully
