Finding Keywords: How to Find the Right Keyprases Step by Step

If you don’t know how to find the right keywords, this might be something that could help you, at least by increasing your blog’s views by 1 percent. I know that I didn’t pay much attention to finding relevant keyphrases for my blog before, and now I am paying for it, four months later.

So let’s get rolling…

Last week I wrote a post on how to increase traffic to your blog, in which I pretty much followed some of the advice by Glen Allsopp. But I didn’t explain everything because, like I was, I didn’t want to overwhelm you (the reader) on how to do this. I know that you might have read all these magic bullets products on how to increase traffic. Well, you won’t find it here, and if you buy any of those FAKE products then you’re just going to keep getting scammed like I did. I am here to show you what works for me and for most successful bloggers.Hard Work!!!
So you might be asking yourself this question a lot: “How do I find good keywords or the best keywords that are relevant and are being searched for?” Am I right?

Simple…

A lot of you here might still be searching for something, that you just press a button and “POW!” your blog shows up in the first page of Google. If you’re one of these people, leave now. But if you’re tired of being on the first page of Google for “cat juggling” and want to be able to climb the ranks of Google, I’m gonna show you my way.

What do I know? What Tools Do I Use to Find Keywords?

Using the Adwords Keyword Tool & Wordtracker Keyword Tool So I’ve been applying Neil Patel’s advice on “being-laser-focused on just one business” to blogging. I just want to focus on a couple of keywords that are high in search volume (get a ton of clicks) and low competition (easy to rank for in the first page of Google). You see, 41 percent of visitors to Google first page click on the first link, and 12 percent the second, and 8 percent the third link. And that’s where I want to be and so do you.

So what keywords did I pick and which should you pick?

I already know for which keywords I want to rank. It’s up to you to decide what you think is relevant to your niche or subject or product. Let’s say you’re trying to rank for “Ferrari Exhaust” for example. I really like Ferrari’s!!
Make sure that you set the settings to All Countries and Territories, and from Broad to Exact on the top right hand side of the page. Now obviously I am not using “Ferrari Exhaust” for my site, this is just an EXAMPLE!, so pick something relevant to your blog or business.

Let me just give you a couple of characteristics of what I look for in my keywords:

  • More than one keyword – so pick a two- or three- or more word phrase; it’s just easier to rank for.
  • Has more than 30K searches per month – (If I do get first place I know I am not going to get all the traffic) EX: “Ferrari Exhaust”= 33,100…41 percent of that is…13,571. I am sure if you’re getting that much traffic to your blog, you’ll be much happier.
  • Make sure it doesn’t have 2,000 backlinks – (talk more about this later) It can take months even years to rank for the first page of Google. That’s not the goal here.

So next…

Once I’ve picked the best keyword that are most relevant to what I am trying to rank for we need to check the competition. I usually use Google and type in the keyphrase on the search box. What I do next is open the first three links in a new tab and copy the URL links.

I take them next to yahoo’s backlinks tool. Just like this I paste it in there.

In this case you can see that, the first site on Google for the keyword “Ferrari Exhaust” only has eight backlinks linking back to this page. This would take less than a week to rank for, with the right moves. The funny thing with this keyword too is that it only has one backlink from another site. With these moves (article marketing, video marketing, social bookmarks, and some pictures on Flickr, anchor text from other sites) You could be in no time on the first page of Google for “Ferrari Exhaust” or any keyword that you are trying to rank for.

So as you can see if you really want to get some more visitors to your site in no time, it is going to take some work, but you don’t need to go and buy any expensive secret tool to drive more traffic to your site.

I found out that ranking first for “Ferrari Exhaust” is worth $10k plus a month. I could easy take the ranking for this page, but that’s not what my focus is here.

It took me a couple of hours to copy and paste a lot of those URLs from one place to another but it was worth it. To save some time try using the SEOBOOK for Firefox tool; it could save you massive time doing all this work. I do this now.

If you have a better way of doing this, don’t be selfish! Share it with the world. I believe that the real power in knowledge is not having it, but sharing it. How do you find keywords for your blog? I am just getting started online so I could appreciate if you could share it with others that might need the information. 2. Great post Wilson! Very informative and you provide valuable insight into keyword research that many online business owners and entrepreneurs need to know. I was not aware of SEO for Firefox. I’ll check it own and let you know if I get any benefit out of it.

I typically use Adwords Keyword tool to conduct my research and sometimes Nichebot Classic. I also use Chrome SEO, an extension for Google Chrome to identify site rank, backlinks and other pertinent information that is useful to SEO.

Great post! Keep up the great work!
