So I am going to talk about something that all of us new bloggers suffer with the most. The “lonely blog syndrome.” In other words, a blog with little-to-no traffic and no comments. How many of you have this problem?
There are hundred of thousands of blogs out there probably suffering from this and I’ll admit I am one of them. Just look at this:
That’s why I went on a search to see how the probloggers like Glen Allsop and Pat Flynn do it. I know you guys are thinking there are other bigger bloggers out there. But you know what? I like these guys more. So get off me… Haters!
Where am I at right now?
Well it’s really crazy to say where am I at right now, because some days my blog gets thirty visitors and other days it get five visitors; just look at my blog traffic this month:
What are the probloggers telling me to do?
I really have a ton of options on how to do this. It can be a little overwhelming for a new blogger like me to go and do all these things at once to start growing my blog traffic so I’ve decided to break it down into little chunks and work on it for the month of June. I am literally going to update it every week and show everyone how my blog’s traffic is growing each week. I get excited just talking about it.
My first step on how to increase the blog traffic to my blog
I would love to just say that I know exactly how to do this, but I don’t; that’s why I research from the best people that know how to do it. And one of those people is Glen Allsop. He wrote an awesome post on how he ranked for 66,000 visitors worth of keywords.
The first thing I need to do is analyze the search volume of my key phrases to see how many people are actually searching for them. A tool you might already know about if you’ve been playing around with internet is the Google Keyword Tool. In my case this is what I found out:
The point here too is to pick words that are relevant to your niche and that are going to bring a good amount of traffic to your blog. Next step I need to really focus on is finding out the competition that these key phrases have. Because if they are to competitive it will be too hard for a new blogger like me to rank high for them and it would suck if I spent too much time on something that would not really improve my blog. Remember that the whole point is to grow the blog so people can actually get to find us.
Key Phrase Competition
This is really going to be a fun part for me in June, because, like I said earlier, this can get really overwhelming if you’re a new blogger like me. But lets see what I am going to have to do here:
Since Glen says “the major factor which defines where a page ranks on Google is the number of backlinks that the site / page has” I am going to follow these steps to the tee.
- Search for your desired keyphrase in Google
- Take the URL of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd results
- Head on over to Yahoo as it is far better at showing links than Google
- Type (without quotes): “link:oneofyourURL’sgohere -site:thedomain.com”
- Write down the number of results that Yahoo shows
By the way you can find most of Glen’s info on his site viperchill.com, he really rocks at this stuff.
Just by knowing how many backlinks these pages have I should have an idea of how many it will take to increase the traffic to my blog.
What Key Phrases is it going to be?
I really wish I could say this but since today is going to be the day that I am going to actually begin to put the time into doing this research I don’t have a clue for what’s it gonna be.
I think from reading Glen’s advice it’s a fairly simple strategy from growing your blogs traffic and getting more readers and subscribers to your blog. Don’t confuse simple with easy work though, he did say he’s someone who “is willing to put the work in” so if you’re going to do this too remember that last quote.
If you’re a faster learner than me there is more to this first part on Glen’s site, I will talk more about that in a later post for now this is what I am gong to work on for now, so that I can get more traffic to FLOW (fun lifestyle of wilson).
For more TIPS on how to increase your blog traffic I took the time to look through my friend Pat Flynn’s blog and borrow some of his brain to show my friends here at FLOW:
These are all related topics, so have some fun and learn something else. I’ll be posting my results from all these ideas I’ve borrowed from some of the probloggers; be sure to stop by for some more fun tips to increase your blogs traffic.

Hi Wilson, every blogger has to go thru this “very little visitors” state. It can be six months or it can be as long as two years. Only those that don't quit will be successful. Good luck.
I am with you…thanks for the encouragement!!
