The Promise I Made To Myself…

This week I promised myself that I would not ever in my life stop being consistent on my blog posting everyday. I am truly serious about this.

That’s why I knew I needed to do something, so I didn’t make that mistake ever again. so I went and did a little research and I put together what I think is going to work best for me and maybe even for you if you get lazy and you want to battle your laziness also, no matter what that is that you don’t want to do.

So the first thing I learned after doing some research about how to be more productive and fight laziness, was that it’s okay to be lazy. I know if I would have ever told my soccer coach such a thing I would have been kicked off the team. But I understand that for certain tasks it doesn’t apply.

Going back to the topic of “It’s Okay to be Lazy.” What Leo Babauta wrote on this post explained how you could just do a few things a day and not have to worry about the rest. The point is to set a limit on how many things you’ll do today so that you’re forced to pick the things that are of the highest priority.

That made total sense to me and it really helped in my case because currently I am working on three projects and if I just do one important things towards each project that’s going to move the project closer to where I want it to be the more productive the task is and I am not just spending time on one thing. Now I can be productive in three places in one day.

Before I was just actually focusing on one at a time, which set me back on shipping time with the other two things I am working on. Now I will probably be able to ship all three projects within a week’s time, which makes me happy.

So what did I learn from applying this productivity tip?

Well, first instead of choosing 15 things to do in one day I now am going to focus on 15 things per week split daily. It’s hopefully going to help me on procrastination and help me be less lazy. I believe the reason I was feeling lazy was mainly because I would give myself to much to do, and I would just give up half way through the day because I would give up mentally. Now I know three tasks are much more achievable and I am breaking those three tasks, so that I know exactly how I am going to attack each one step by step.

I’ve learned that I like to do things on a step by step style, so I’ll write down exactly what I will do to complete certain tasks. I also used Google calendar to break down the week, that way I know what I need to do and I don’t wake up everyday guessing what I am going to do.

Some other secrets to being “Lazy-Productive”

  • Take a little 20 minute nap between those projects.
  • There’s nothing productive about checking your email ten times a day.
  • Setup e.ggtimer.com for an hour or less to create urgency.
  • Use pumped up music in the background when you’re working if you can.
  • No matter what you’re doing just start.
  • Write down an affirmation about being lazy and how its okay.
  • Go with the flow if you don’t really have a plan of attack.
  • Find someone to do whatever it is you’re trying to do online. There are plenty of sites now that specialize in that. Just outsource it.

I can say now that being lazy for almost two weeks now has actually made me look into ways I can get better mentally and physically. I am planning on following this Lazy-Productive schedule all month and hopefully longer than that.

If you’re struggling with laziness too, you should give it a try. And if you know of any other ways to fight this lizard brain of ours please shout it out in the comments.

Okay for now take care and if you can just subscribe to my RSS I would appreciate it. My goal is to grow my RSS as much as I can in July. Promise you won’t read any fluff here. Besides if you don’t like it all you have to do is unsubscribe. Thanks!

  1. Hey Wilson!

Glad you’ve stumbled on something that will work for you. I’m currently trying to rework myself to be more more productive, and here you go showing me up by being lazier. :P

Hope you’re having an awesome week!

  2. Interesting post Wilson. What I have found very fascinating about my own personal work schedule is that Pareto’s 80/20 principle works very effectively if I just sit back and trust it, and not try to do too much in a day, and result in burnout. I generally like to make a list of the top 3 things I must accomplish for the day, and these consist of carefully selected activities that consititute for my 20% of effort resulting in 80% of my outcome. This seems to work well for me, the goal is really focused effort and not spreading my work load too thin. Nicely written post here with great time managment tips!

    • Yea I’ve heard of pareto’s from the 4 hour workweek, that’s a good technique too I’ve hear. Good stuff man I like it how there is so many ways that you can do something.

  3. Yeah. lol. I know what you meant. I think a better word for lazy that I personally use is “efficiency.” A full time blogger’s world is very different than the mainstream world. So I have to come up with words that make more sense to other people.
